The sensor component floats on the liquid surface and turns the switch when the levels change, helping to prevent overflow or underfilling. The floating component has an internal magnet and a reed in the switch. The floating component moves with the surface of the liquid. When the float gets near the reed, the force of the magnet opens or closes the switch, alerting you to the change in liquid levels.
