In the sewage of the city of Barntrup, regulatory authorities have found increased levels of phosphorus, which have given the occasion to initiate a filter stage. And in connection with the removal of micropollutants, a so-called adsorption and filter stage has been installed, which cleans both micropollutants and phosphorus. In the cleaning stage, powdered activated carbon is added to remove the micropollutants from the wastewater. And this powdered activated carbon is then filtered out from the wastewater over a novel filter system, the so-called fuzzy filter. We can also remove microplastics from the wastewater. The flow is clear and clean again. Then for the new system, we were looking for a reliable product manufacturer who will work with us on the design of pneumatic drives. The advantages are obvious: they are small solid actuator units, they work without electricity, namely with pneumatics, they have a spare reserve. If the electricity is gone, then you can still operate them with pneumatics. And especially in X areas, in other words in the coal silo, it is important to approach with as little electrical equipment as possible, but with pneumatics to ensure explosion protection. And of course they are much cheaper. Pneumatic knife gate valves from Festo are very compact and they are easy to implement if there is a large number of them and many pipes could stand in the way.
