It's positioned to receive and return a ray of light from a sensing device on the other side. This enables the control system to keep an eye on objects by detecting their presence, absence and location as they move along a conveyor. You can use this unit with an E3 series retroreflective photoelectric sensor that features the MSR function (such as 778-8713).
