With this adapter, you can connect Windows and Mac based Thunderbolt™ 3 computers to older Thunderbolt devices, such as external hard drives, Thunderbolt displays, and older Thunderbolt capable Mac computers.

What is Thunderbolt 3?
Thunderbolt 3 is new connectivity standard, designed by Intel that replaces the Thunderbolt 2. Thunderbolt 3 defines a superset of capabilities that runs on USB-C connectors and cables.
