The MTL5500 Series is the latest generation of MTL intrinsic safety isolators designed to meet the needs of the intrinsic safety (IS) interface market for application focussed projects, from single instrument loops to fully equipped cabinets. Incorporating advanced circuit design and innovative isolating transformer construction these isolators offer explosion protection and help protect electrical signals in hazardous areas ensuring a safe working environment.

DIN-rail mounting and plug-in signal and power connectors simplify installation and maintenance. These IS units are powered from a 20 to 35 V dc supply voltage, or, in some cases, from the signal itself.

The compact 16mm wide design reduces weight and gives a cost-effective high packing density and reduction in power consumption. A wide range of module options includes both single and multiple channel isolation barrier devices. Use this zener barrier from Eaton's MTL range to direct energy safely from hazardous areas to safe zones. This component is a multi-channel device, so it can provide signals for up to two signal loads in low-risk zones. It's energy-efficient, consuming just 96mA (milliamperes) of current at 24V DC (direct current) and dissipating up to 1.4W of power. This component has a green light-emitting diode (LED) indicator that tells you when it's powered up. It's suitable for control and instrumentation systems where it's used to process standardised signals.

This zener barrier allows cables to short circuit to each other or to metallic parts connected to an earth without danger. Its resistor limits the incoming current, Zener diodes re-channel the excess voltage to the ground and fuses offer protection from short circuits.
