Ixxat CAN-CR210/FO – Modular CAN repeater with ST fiber optic interface and DIN rail backbone bus, galvanically isolated

The Ixxat CAN-CR220 is a CAN repeater with two CAN interfaces, one of which is a Fiber Optic interface (ST plug), and a CAN backbone bus. It enables the conversion of the CAN signal from copper wire (ISO 11898-2) to fibre optic cables, providing a complete isolation and protection against EM-influences. Additionally, the CAN repeater is used to improve the CAN bus load capacity, to establish a physical coupling of bus systems or to insert a galvanic isolation. It creates the necessary flexibility to optimize the structure of CAN networks, as it enables the implementation of tree or star topologies as well as stub lines. With the integrated DIN rail backbone bus, it’s possible to easily line up and connect multiple repeaters, e.g. for creating star topologies. Optimized network structures result in simpler cable wiring and cost savings at installation and maintenance.
The integrated galvanic isolation is provided for both the CAN segments and the supply voltage, and reliably increases the protection of the device against overvoltage and voltage peaks. In case of disturbances in the CAN lines, the repeater automatically disconnects the affected segment and restores it after the fault is resolved, ensuring uninterrupted network operation.
Ixxat CAN repeaters are specially designed for use in an industrial environment, meeting the highest demands in terms of robustness, temperature range and safety.

Features and Benefits

• Cost savings due to simple wiring
• Almost no influence on real-time behavior (propagation delay ca. 60 m/300 ns)
• Greater flexibility in CAN network design
• Separates a defective segment, allowing the remaining network to continue working
• Increased system reliability
• DIN rail backbone bus to line up and connect repeaters easily
• Fiber optic enables transmission in areas with high electromagnetic disturbances

Technical Data

• Connectors: 1 x D-Sub 9, 2 x ST connector, 1 x DIN rail backbone bus (TBUS), 1 x screw terminal (Power)
